Ghani Vows End of Unilateral Ceasefire with Taliban

President Ghani on Saturday announced the end of the ceasefire and ordered security forces to resume operations against armed oppositions across the country.

Speaking at a press conference in ARG, he said: “The ceasefire has ended, our security and defense forces are allowed to carry out operations”.

President Ghani also accentuated that government was working hard to achieve peace but that it had no plans to hand over territory to the Taliban.
“No one has the right to monopolize the peace process,” Ghani continued.

He said it was now up to the Taliban to join the peace process especially as they have to face the Afghan people and religious scholars.

Ghani said it is the “Taliban’s time to decide how they are going to deal with the situation.”

President Ghani announced ceasefire with Taliban group on 12 June during Eid ul-Fitre, then, Taliban also announced a three-day ceasefire on Eid days. President Ghani extended the ceasefire for another 10 days but Taliban group gave no answer.
