In Talks with Taliban; What things the president Hide?
During ceasefire between the government and Taliban group on Eid days, it was believed that the presidency and circles close to it conceals issues about peace with Taliban from other political movements.
Negotiation and peace with Taliban is a dominant discourse in the politics of Afghanistan. The NUG seems to reach an agreement with the Taliban before holding the presidential election next year.
For long, President M. Ashraf Ghani stresses on this issue, an internal consensus formed for negotiation and peace with Taliban, and most recently, during a meeting with Ulema in ARG, he said that global consensus has been formed to end the war in Afghanistan and for reconciliation with Taliban as well. The ceasefire with Taliban indicates that peace is possible in the country.
Earlier, president Ghani held a consultative meeting with political faces and Jihadist leaders inside the presidential palace for talks with the Taliban group, and the spokesman for the president said that all participants agreed on peace with Taliban and that there were no opposing views.
However, a source had told DID press agency that some Jihadi leaders at the meeting had differences with the president on how to negotiate with the Taliban group, emphasizing that the president does not get the consultation of other addresses and political movements about peace talks with Taliban. The monopoly approach by Ashraf Ghani even about peace talks with Taliban has not formed an internal consensus.
The leaders of National Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan has recently reacted against the government’s measure for talks with Taliban, saying that the presidency should get the opinion of political elders in relation to negotiation with Taliban.
The leaders of this major political Coalition has called on the presidency to use from first VP General Dostum in talks with Taliban as he has an accurate recognition from the group. According to the coalition, if the government negotiates in coordination with this general, it will have effective impacts.
Ata M. Noor, Mohammad Mohaqiq, and General Dostum who are the leading members of the Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan met in Ankara, Turkey on 27 June. The leaders said that the president monopolizes even in talks with Taliban.
The major political coalition suggested that an impartial country should be the host for talks between the government and Taliban group.
The protest by the leading members of the National Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan means that president Ghani does not pay attention to other views for Talks with Taliban. On the other hand, it can be said the president conceal something about talks with armed oppositions.
The members of National Coalition for the Salvation of Afghanistan are undoubtedly prominent figures in the politics of Afghanistan. Their criticism about how to negotiate with Taliban indicate that the presidency is monopolizing even on national issues.
