350 Former European Officials Urge Suspension of EU–Israel Partnership Deal

DID Press: More than 350 former senior European officials, including ministers, ambassadors, and top EU representatives, have called for the suspension of the European Union’s partnership agreement with Israel, citing alleged serious violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In an open letter, the signatories argued that continued implementation of the agreement is incompatible with the EU’s stated principles and legal commitments on human rights and democratic values.

Among the prominent signatories is Josep Borrell, the EU’s former foreign policy chief. The group criticized Israeli policies in the occupied territories, pointing to settlement expansion, rising violence, and restrictions on Palestinians, while describing the humanitarian situation in Gaza as critical.

They further argued that Israel’s actions contravene Article 2 of the agreement, which conditions cooperation on respect for human rights and democratic principles.
