DID Press: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran strongly condemned what it describes as a US attack on an Iranian commercial vessel and the detention of its crew and accompanying family members.
In an official statement, the ministry said forces of the United States violated international law by intercepting a ship flying the Iranian flag and taking its crew into custody, describing the individuals as being effectively “held hostage.”
The statement expressed serious concern over the condition of the detained crew and their families, demanding their immediate and unconditional release. It added that Washington would bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from the incident.
The ministry further characterized the operation as a clear breach of international law and maritime freedom, calling on international organizations to respond to the development.
It also stressed that Iran will use all diplomatic and legal mechanisms to pursue the case and protect the rights of its citizens.
