Afghanistan–Azerbaijan Review Trade, Transit, and Investment Cooperation
DID Press: Taliban economic delegation held talks with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy on expanding trade relations, cargo transit, and cooperation in oil and gas sector.

The delegation, led by Mullah Fayzullah Tamim, head of Taliban’s National Standards and Quality Authority, along with Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Mawlawi Ahmadullah Zahid and Mohammad Hasan, director of the Afghanistan Oil and Gas Company, met Anar Akhundov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and senior official at SOCAR.
Both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral economic and commercial ties between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan.
Key topics included increasing Afghan exports to European markets via Azerbaijani transit routes, improving transport and logistics infrastructure, and expanding direct cooperation between the two countries’ oil and gas companies.
Investment opportunities in energy and trade were also discussed, with both sides emphasizing the need for sustainable frameworks to boost economic exchanges.
Mawlawi Ahmadullah Zahid highlighted Afghanistan’s economy-focused policy and said closer cooperation with Azerbaijan could enhance access to international markets. He also stressed the importance of increasing imports of high-quality petroleum products from Azerbaijan through collaboration with SOCAR.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Economy welcomed the expansion of economic ties and stated that his country is fully prepared to deepen cooperation in trade, energy, and transit, noting that relations could be elevated to a higher level in the future.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to continue consultations and strengthen bilateral cooperation in economic and energy sectors.
