Kabul Reviews Underground Market and New Urban Development Projects

DID Press: Inter-Ministerial Investment Committee in Kabul has reviewed several major urban development proposals, including an underground commercial market and new residential townships in the capital.

The meeting focused on assessing investment opportunities and improving urban management, with key projects discussed in Districts 1 and 8 of Kabul.

One of the main proposals is the construction of an underground commercial market in the heart of the city. The project would extend from Sepahi Gumnam Square to Maiwand Road and further to Pul-e-yakpaysagi in District 1.

City officials say the project aims to organize commercial activity, reduce traffic congestion in central Kabul, and create a modern and structured shopping hub, potentially transforming the economic landscape of the area.

Another proposal includes the development of a new commercial market in District 1, expected to function as a new trade center and attract private sector investment.

The committee also discussed plans for a residential township on municipal land behind the Gul-e-Zarin township in District 8. The project is designed to address growing housing demand and improve living conditions in the city.

Officials emphasized that these initiatives are part of Kabul’s medium-term urban development strategy focused on sustainable growth, infrastructure improvement, and better city management. Final decisions will be taken after technical, economic, and environmental assessments are completed.
