France Signals Possible EU Sanctions on Israel Within Days

DID Press: Foreign minister of France has indicated that the European Union could soon approve sanctions against Israel, following a potential political shift in Hungary.

The minister stated that with a change of government in Hungary and the emergence of a more moderate administration, the European Union is likely to move forward with sanction measures that had previously been blocked.

He noted that for the past year he has been advocating sanctions against individuals or entities responsible for violence against Palestinians, including incidents in the West Bank.

“I believe that in the coming days we will succeed in approving these sanctions,” the minister said, expressing confidence that the political shift could remove the main obstacle to consensus within the bloc.

The proposed measures had repeatedly been vetoed by Hungary under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, but officials suggest that this veto “could” be lifted with the appointment of a new prime minister, potentially clearing the path for collective European action.
