Taliban Ban Import and Sale of Firecrackers Nationwide

DID Press: The authorities of the Afghanistan have announced a nationwide ban on the import, production, and sale of firecrackers, ordering customs offices to block the entry and clearance of any related shipments.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in an official statement that all customs authorities are required to prevent the registration, clearance, and distribution of firecrackers—locally known as “pataqi”—and to return any detected consignments to their country of origin.

A ministry spokesperson stated that the decision was taken under the directive of the Taliban leadership, with the stated aim of preventing security and social risks associated with the use of low-grade explosive materials.

Officials warned that individuals or companies violating the order will face legal action, with cases referred to judicial authorities.

According to Taliban representatives, the measure forms part of broader efforts to regulate markets and restrict goods considered disruptive to public order and safety.
