DID Press: Russia’s envoy to United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has urged Israel to withdraw from Lebanon and comply with international obligations, during a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Nebenzya criticized Israel’s conduct, accusing it of failing to respect the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission UNIFIL, and alleging that its forces have come under attack, which he described as a violation of international principles and a threat to regional stability.
He also emphasized the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, calling for adherence to the ceasefire and an end to Israel’s military presence in Lebanese territory.
The Russian representative warned that continued violations and failure to withdraw could undermine any prospects for lasting peace and increase the risk of renewed escalation in the region.
