China, Taliban Discuss Urumqi Dialogue Process in Kabul

DID Press: Amir Khan Muttaqi and Yue Xiaoyong held talks in Kabul on strengthening bilateral ties, regional security cooperation, and advancing the Urumqi dialogue process aimed at easing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Chinese envoy described the Urumqi process as an important framework for regional coordination and stability, stressing that the next phase of talks should focus on practical and result-oriented outcomes.

Yue Xiaoyong also emphasized the importance of confidence-building measures, constructive engagement, and reducing tensions to ensure the success of the dialogue process.

Muttaqi, for his part, said regional stability, balanced relations, economic cooperation, and mutual respect remain central principles of Afghanistan’s foreign policy under the Taliban administration.

He added that the Taliban government has taken steps to improve trust and reduce regional tensions, stressing that future negotiations should proceed with a clear agenda and a focus on concrete results.

China is considered one of the key regional actors engaging with Afghanistan, while the Urumqi process has emerged as a diplomatic platform aimed at facilitating dialogue between the Taliban and Pakistan.
