Former Pakistani Diplomat Warns US Stance May Derail Iran Talks

DID Press: Asif Durrani has sharply criticized the policies of the Trump administration toward Iran, warning that Washington’s current approach is pushing negotiations toward failure.

Durrani said the United States cannot demand that Iran dismantle its nuclear program while simultaneously maintaining sanctions and freezing Iranian assets.

According to the former Pakistani diplomat, no independent country would accept unilateral demands under economic pressure without receiving reciprocal concessions.

He argued that Washington’s strategy has not only undermined diplomatic efforts but also created serious consequences for the global economy.

Durrani warned that continued tensions between Tehran and Washington could drive up oil prices, fuel inflation, disrupt global supply chains, destabilize financial markets, and increase unemployment in vulnerable economies.

He also cautioned that any escalation in the Persian Gulf — particularly around the Strait of Hormuz — could push the global economy into a more dangerous phase of instability.

Criticizing U.S. policy, Durrani stressed that diplomacy cannot succeed through threats and sanctions alone, adding that sustainable peace requires confidence-building measures, the gradual easing of sanctions, and recognition of the legitimate security concerns of all sides.

He concluded that continuing the current U.S. approach would not resolve the crisis but instead impose heavier economic and strategic costs on the world.
