Taliban Leader Eid Message Stresses Sharia Implementation, Protection of Islamic System
DID Press: The leader of Afghanistan’s Taliban administration, Hibatullah Akhundzada, has used his Eid al-Adha message to call for obedience to the group’s directives, full implementation of its interpretation of Islamic law, and support for the ruling system, while urging resistance against what he described as “enemies of the system.”

In his statement marking the Islamic holiday, Akhundzada extended Eid greetings and encouraged followers to operate within what he termed a “Sharia-based system,” stressing adherence to religious rulings and strengthening of the governing structure. He described compliance with Taliban directives and support for state institutions as the “path to prosperity,” according to the message.
The Taliban leader also claimed that the “Sharia rights of citizens” are being upheld under the current administration and urged officials to avoid oppression in their dealings with the public. However, these claims contrast with ongoing reports from the UN and human rights organizations, which accuse the Taliban of systematic restrictions on women’s rights, suppression of civil liberties, arbitrary detentions, and widespread social limitations.
Akhundzada further instructed security agencies to ensure public safety and stability during the Eid period and called on authorities to facilitate housing and land allocation for returning migrants.
He also urged the public to cooperate with the Taliban to safeguard what he described as the “Islamic system,” attributing its existence to the sacrifices of fighters and calling for unity against adversaries.
The message comes amid continued international pressure on the Taliban over restrictive policies, particularly affecting women and girls, and broader curbs on political, social, and religious freedoms. Except Russia, no country has formally recognized the Taliban administration to date.
