Afghanistan Named Vice President of 81st UN General Assembly Session
DID Press: Afghanistan has been elected as one of the vice presidents of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Afghanistan’s UN representative.

Naseer Ahmad Faiq announced that the General Assembly, in its latest session, selected the session’s president and vice presidents for the upcoming term.
Faiq welcomed the election of Mohamed Khalilur Rahman as president of the 81st UNGA session and expressed hope that Afghanistan will play a constructive role in supporting the assembly’s work and objectives.
In a post on X, he said Afghanistan is ready to work closely with the newly elected president and UN member states to advance the goals and responsibilities of the General Assembly.
The appointment comes amid an ongoing dispute over Afghanistan’s UN representation since the 2021 political transition. The United Nations has not recognized the current Taliban administration, and Afghanistan’s seat remains held by diplomats associated with the former government.
The UN General Assembly remains the main deliberative body of the United Nations, where all 193 member states discuss key global issues, including peace and security, development, and human rights.
