UN Warns Afghanistan Faces Above-Average Heat This Month

DID Press: United Nations has warned that Afghanistan is likely to experience above-average temperatures this month, alongside near-normal rainfall levels, according to a new climate outlook.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said its Afghanistan office projects that while precipitation is expected to remain close to seasonal norms, temperatures will rise above average across the country.

In a statement shared on X, the agency noted that higher temperatures combined with reduced access to water resources could place additional pressure on summer crops, livestock, and grazing lands.

The report also indicated that widespread crop failure is not expected in June; however, localized risks linked to water shortages, pest outbreaks, plant diseases, and climate variability must be carefully managed.

Officials emphasized the need for preparedness measures to mitigate agricultural and environmental impacts in vulnerable regions.
