Canada Hosts International Meeting on Afghanistan’s Future

DID Press: Canada hosted a meeting of the Friends of Afghanistan Group, bringing together representatives from United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan and the International Committee of the Red Cross to assess the latest developments in Afghanistan.

The meeting reviewed Afghanistan’s current political, economic, and humanitarian conditions, as well as the country’s human rights situation.

According to information released by Canada’s diplomatic mission to the United Nations, participants exchanged assessments and perspectives on the challenges facing Afghanistan and underscored the importance of continued international support for the Afghan people.

Representatives of UNAMA and the ICRC presented updates on humanitarian needs, ongoing challenges, and human rights conditions across the country.

Participants also stressed the need for greater international coordination to address Afghanistan’s economic and humanitarian difficulties and to support long-term stability and the well-being of its population.
