Koofi: Afghan Protests Abroad Reflect Growing Public Dissent
DID Press: Fawzia Koofi has described recent demonstrations by Afghan citizens in multiple countries as a sign of a “spontaneous and indigenous awakening” against what she called repression.

Koofi said hundreds of Afghans have taken to the streets abroad in response to the detention of women, social restrictions, and reported crackdowns on protesters by the de facto authorities in Afghanistan.
She noted that the protests are a continuation of earlier movements that began in Kabul and Herat and have now expanded into a global wave of demonstrations.
Koofi emphasized that the voice for justice “cannot be silenced” and said the struggle for human dignity and civil rights continues despite ongoing challenges.
She further stated that the continuation of the current situation is not in anyone’s interest and argued that meaningful change must emerge from within society through the participation of the people.
