Taliban-Appointed Kabul Mayor Reportedly Detained on Corruption Allegations
DID Press: Reports indicate that Mawlawi Abdul Rashid, the Taliban-appointed mayor of Kabul, has been detained by intelligence authorities on allegations of corruption, in what could become one of the most notable anti-corruption cases involving a senior municipal official under the current administration.

According to reports, Abdul Rashid was detained on Saturday, June 20. At the same time, around 20 district-level municipal officials in Kabul were also reportedly taken into custody.
No official statement has been issued by Taliban government spokespeople or Kabul Municipality officials regarding the reported arrests, and the allegations have not been independently verified.
Abdul Rashid was appointed mayor of Kabul in October 2021 by Mohammad Hassan Akhund following the Taliban’s return to power and had served in the position since then.
The reported detentions come amid ongoing efforts by Taliban authorities to address allegations of corruption within government institutions, although details of the case, including the specific charges and the status of those detained, remain unclear.
