UNDP Support Preserves 300 Women’s Jobs in Mazar-e-Sharif

DID Press: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that its support for a fruit processing company in Mazar-e-Sharif has helped preserve 300 jobs for women, create new employment opportunities, and support thousands of farmers in Afghanistan.

United Nations Development Programme Administrator Alexander De Croo said continued support for Afghanistan’s private sector and employment initiatives remains a priority, noting that a UNDP-backed project in Mazar-e-Sharif has helped maintain hundreds of jobs while strengthening agricultural supply chains.

During a visit to a fruit processing company in Mazar-e-Sharif, De Croo said UNDP assistance had helped preserve 400 employment opportunities, including 300 jobs held by women.

He added that the programme also contributed to creating 100 new jobs and expanding the capacity for processing and production of agricultural products.

De Croo highlighted the importance of agro-processing industries in Afghanistan’s economic development, saying investment in this sector can increase the value of agricultural products, improve market access for farmers, and raise the income of local producers.

According to UNDP, the project has strengthened agricultural supply chains and provided benefits to around 3,000 farmers.

The UN official said such support will continue with the aim of improving economic resilience, strengthening domestic production, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for Afghan families.
