Afghanistan UN Envoy Backs Anti-Taliban Attack in Badakhshan

DID Press: Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has voiced support for an armed attack claimed by the Sepahiyan-e Mihan (Homeland Forces) group in Badakhshan Province, describing it as a symbol of resistance against the Taliban and saying that “the voice of resistance is rising from the heart of the Hindu Kush.”

In a post published Friday on X, Nasir Ahmad Andisha said recent developments in Yaftal-e Payan District demonstrate that “oppression and subjugation will not take root in this land.”

He described the people of Yaftal as “guardians of Afghanistan’s freedom” and said “today’s cry is the sound of breaking the silence against ظلم (oppression).” He added that history would remember these sacrifices and judge those who, in his words, had either “sold their dignity for a small price” or remained silent in the face of events.

Earlier, former Afghan lawmaker Fawzia Koofi and Afghanistan’s ambassador to Tajikistan, Zahir Aghbar, also reacted to the incident, commenting on the reported resistance in Badakhshan and its potential security implications.

The reported attack and the reactions it prompted have further highlighted Afghanistan’s political and security divisions under Taliban rule, with observers closely watching developments in Badakhshan.
