DID Press: More than 100 Democratic members of the US House of Representatives voted in favor of a proposal to halt military aid to Israel, highlighting growing divisions within the Democratic Party over Washington’s policy toward its key Middle East ally.

The measure, introduced by Thomas Massie, the Republican congressman from Kentucky, was ultimately rejected after failing to secure majority support in the House.
During the vote, Hakeem Jeffries, the House Democratic leader, opposed the proposal. However, Katherine Clark, the House Democratic Whip, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi voted in favor.
Pelosi said US policy toward Israel “should change for the benefit of both Israelis and Palestinians,” while Clark argued that Washington should not give “a blank check” to any country.
Although the measure carried no legal force, political observers say the vote underscores widening divisions within the Democratic Party over support for Israel and could influence both the upcoming US midterm elections and the future of US-Israel relations.
