Afghanistan Issues Weather Alert as Flood Risk Rises Across 12 Provinces

DID Press: Afghanistan’s meteorological authorities have warned of heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding across 12 provinces on Monday, urging residents in high-risk areas to take precautionary measures.

According to the Meteorological Department of the Taliban-run Ministry of Transport, an active weather system is expected to bring intense rainfall, increasing the risk of sudden flooding, particularly in eastern and northeastern parts of the country.

The provinces identified as facing the highest risk are Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Panjshir, Kapisa, Nangarhar, Logar, Paktia, Khost, Paktika, Ghazni and Badakhshan.

Officials have advised residents in affected areas to remain alert, avoid flood-prone routes and follow local safety guidance as weather conditions deteriorate.

The warning comes after several provinces experienced severe rainfall and damaging floods in recent weeks, raising concerns over renewed flash flooding and its potential impact on vulnerable communities.
