The Independent: Indian Engineers Allegedly Involved in Taliban Drone Program

DID Press: The Independent has reported that the Taliban are developing their drone capabilities with assistance from Indian engineers and are modifying Chinese-made commercial drones for potential military operations against Pakistan.

According to the report, the Taliban have acquired a number of commercially manufactured Chinese drones and made technical modifications to adapt them for military purposes.

The drones are reportedly being used for reconnaissance, surveillance and attacks against selected targets.

The Independent, citing a former Afghan security source, reported that Indian engineers have been involved in aspects of the Taliban’s drone program. However, the report did not provide details on the number of engineers involved, the nature of their cooperation or the extent of their contribution to the Taliban’s drone capabilities.

The report also claimed that the Taliban have expanded their operational use of drones in recent months and have targeted military positions inside Pakistan.

However, the actual size and capabilities of the Taliban’s drone fleet, as well as the claim regarding the involvement of Indian engineers, have not been independently verified.
