NYT: Iran War Has Depleted US Missile Defenses and Weakened Deterrence

DID Press: The five-month US war with Iran has depleted more than 1,500 Patriot interceptor missiles and thousands of long-range cruise and ballistic missiles, according to The New York Times. Pentagon officials have warned that replenishing the depleted stockpiles could take at least two years.

The shortages, which had already emerged amid US military support for Ukraine, have now developed into a broader weapons-supply crisis, significantly reducing Washington’s ability to respond to potential threats in Europe and Asia.

According to the report, the United States has been forced to redeploy some of its missile and air-defense systems from Europe and Asia to the Middle East, raising concerns among US allies in both regions.

Analysts say Russia and China are closely monitoring the decline in US military capacity and could seek to exploit the situation for strategic moves involving Taiwan or Eastern Europe. Such developments, they warn, could reshape the global security order for decades.
