DID Press: Pakistan’s military spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has pledged that Islamabad will stand with Saudi Arabia against any aggression, saying Pakistan is prepared to go “to any extent” to defend the Kingdom.Chaudhry, director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), made the remarks in an interview with Arab News as attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia have intensified.
“Pakistan fully stands with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and physically,” Chaudhry said, emphasizing the word “physically.” He added that Pakistan would “go to any extent” to defend Saudi Arabia against aggression.
Chaudhry said Pakistan’s commitment also extends to the protection of Makkah and Madinah, Islam’s two holiest cities, and described Islamabad’s commitment to Saudi security as “unconditional.”
The remarks come amid renewed Houthi attacks involving missiles and drones targeting Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said on Sept. 17 that Islamabad remained committed to supporting Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and the security of the two holy sites.
The statements have also drawn attention to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed on Aug. 7 by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The agreement states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries is to be regarded as an attack against all three and aims to strengthen collective deterrence and defence cooperation.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said this week that Islamabad was committed “in intent and spirit” to implementing both the Makkah agreement and its separate Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement with Saudi Arabia, while noting that operational details remain confidential.
