OIC to Hold Meeting on Afghanistan

DID Press: The Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Afghanistan will meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

OIC announced that its Contact Group on Afghanistan will convene on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, will lead a high-level delegation from the organization’s General Secretariat to participate in the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly.

According to the OIC, the delegation will hold bilateral meetings with heads of delegations from member states, senior UN officials, and representatives of international organizations during the visit.

The annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers of OIC member states is also scheduled to take place at the United Nations headquarters.

OIC said several ministerial contact groups and specialized committees will also hold meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The discussions will cover issues including Palestine, Muslims and minorities, regional issues in Europe, Jammu and Kashmir, Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, and Afghanistan.

However, OIC has not yet announced a specific date for the meeting of its Contact Group on Afghanistan.
