Hundreds of Security Cameras Become Operational Across Herat City
DID Press: Hundreds of security cameras have become operational at various locations across Herat city in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the leadership of the provincial police command. Officials said the measure was taken to strengthen urban security, prevent crime, and identify and track criminal incidents.

Sheikh Naqibullah Azizi, the Taliban’s police chief in Herat, said during the launch of the system that the installation of security cameras in different parts of the city would strengthen the monitoring of the security situation and the identification of criminal incidents.
Officials from the Ministry of Interior Affairs said a significant portion of Herat city is now covered by the advanced cameras. According to them, the equipment is capable of recording during both day and night, with the required power supplied through batteries and solar systems.
According to officials, the use of these systems is expected to enable more precise monitoring across the city and faster tracking of criminal incidents.
However, the expansion of security cameras across the city, alongside their potential benefits for crime prevention and investigation, also raises questions about the extent of surveillance over citizens’ daily lives. The lack of clear explanations about how recorded images are collected, stored and used could increase concerns over privacy and the transformation of public spaces into environments subject to permanent police surveillance.
