The country’s total population is estimated at 32.9 million this year, of which about 16.8 million (51.0 percent) are men and about 16.1 million (49.0 percent) are women.

According to the office of national statistics and information, the country’s 32.9 million people include 23.4 million (71.0 percent) rural population, 8.0 million (24.4 percent) urban and 1.5 million (4.6 percent) is the nomadic population.

The estimated population for 1399 consists of 34 provinces (364 main districts, 24 temporary districts and 34 provincial capitals).
The estimated population is prepared annually in Dari, Pashto, and English by the National office of Statistics and Information.
