Israeli Opposition Leaders Unite to Plan Post-Netanyahu Future

DID Press: Leaders of Israel’s opposition parties announced the formation of a joint forum aimed at strengthening political coordination against the ruling coalition and outlining the framework for a potential future government.

The announcement followed a meeting between Yair Lapid, opposition leader, Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, Gadi Eizenkot, Yair Golan, and other opposition figures.

In a joint statement after the talks, the leaders said they had agreed to make “Party Leaders Forum” a permanent body, with the next meeting scheduled immediately after Yom Kippur, which begins on the evening of Wednesday, October 1, and ends on the evening of Thursday, October 2.

The statement said the forum will form a committee tasked with drafting the fundamental principles of a potential future government. These principles are expected to include the creation of a new constitution, implementation of universal national service, and preservation of Israel’s identity as a “Jewish, democratic, and Zionist state.”

Opposition leaders also indicated that former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz are expected to attend the next forum meeting.

The statement emphasized that the main goal of the initiative is “greater cohesion within the opposition in preparation for the next political phase.”
