UN Urges Immediate De-escalation of Taliban–Pakistan Border Clashes
DID Press: UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi expressed concern over escalating clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani military along the Durand Line, urging an immediate reduction of tensions and the preservation of regional stability.

In a post on X, Grandi wrote: “For the sake of those affected and for regional stability, let’s hope for a swift de-escalation of tensions.”
He described Afghanistan–Pakistan border as “a recurring scene of military confrontation, forced displacement, and humanitarian crises,” warning that continued violence may have serious consequences for civilians and regional security.
Overnight fighting between Taliban forces and the Pakistani army reportedly lasted several hours, leading to the closure of border crossings and stranding hundreds of travelers, patients, migrants, and cargo trucks. Local sources have reported emerging humanitarian concerns on both sides of the frontier.
Following the renewed clashes, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates issued separate statements urging both parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through dialogue.
Observers warn that prolonged tensions can disrupt regional trade routes and further destabilize South Asia.
