UNAMA Deputy Visits Development Projects in Bamyan
DID Press: Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and Humanitarian Coordinator, visited Bamyan province to review ongoing UN-led development projects in the sectors of education, health, agriculture, and livelihoods.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Ratwatte said the purpose of his provincial trips is to assess local needs and share them with international partners and donor countries. He noted that he has so far visited at least 24 provinces across Afghanistan.
According to Ratwatte, the decline in international aid has had a profound impact on the lives of Afghans — particularly in education and health, where shortages of resources and facilities remain critical.
He further highlighted that Afghanistan has faced three major crises this year — drought, earthquakes, and refugee challenges — all of which have directly affected people’s livelihoods and well-being.
The UN official reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working closely with international institutions and donor countries to develop sustainable and effective solutions to address these ongoing challenges.
