Poll: Afghan Public View Tajik Delegation Visit as Political-Security-Focused

DID Press: A recent poll conducted by DID Press Agency indicates that Afghanistan audiences largely perceive the high-level visit of a Tajik delegation to Afghanistan as a diplomatic effort aimed at easing political tensions between the two countries.

Respondents were asked to select from four possible objectives of the visit. 43% identified “political dialogue to reduce tensions and redefine bilateral relations” as the primary purpose, signaling that the public views the trip chiefly as a political and conflict-management initiative.

The second-most cited objective, “strengthening security and border coordination and managing anti-Taliban activities,” received 29% of responses, reflecting heightened public concern over security issues, particularly in light of anti-Taliban groups operating in Tajikistan.

Economic goals, including “expanding trade and commercial ties” and “attracting investment and developing joint projects,” each garnered 14% of the vote, suggesting that the economic dimension of the visit is seen as less central than political and security matters.

The poll highlights that Afghanistan public opinion frames the Tajik delegation’s visit primarily as a mechanism for political and security engagement, areas that have historically been the main sources of tension between Kabul and Dushanbe.
