Six PTM Activists Missing in Peshawar; Amnesty Urges Probe

DID Press: Amnesty International expressed serious concern over the disappearance of six members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and urged the Pakistani government to immediately investigate and provide clear information about their fate. The activists were reportedly abducted in Peshawar ten days ago, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

The missing include Norullah Tarin, Hanif Pashtun, Syed Irfanullah, Farman Wazir, Adnan Wazir, and Habib Wazir. Amnesty International described the disappearances as part of a “disturbing pattern of political repression and elimination of dissent” in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

“These enforced disappearances are part of a broader campaign to silence critics in Pakistan,” the organization said, calling for immediate action to locate the activists and hold those responsible accountable.

Despite more than ten days having passed, Pakistani authorities have provided no information regarding the activists’ location or condition, leaving their families and the PTM community in anxious uncertainty.

The PTM, which advocates for Pashtun rights, has faced increasing pressure from Pakistan’s security agencies over recent years, including arbitrary arrests, targeted attacks, and shootings. The movement’s outspoken criticism of military operations in tribal areas has made its members vulnerable to threats and repression.
