Israeli Cabinet Rift Stalled Post-Attack Rebuilding Process

DID Press: Months after missile strikes by Iran which devastated residential buildings and infrastructure across Israeli cities, reconstruction remains at a standstill due to deep divisions within the ruling cabinet and a severe budget crisis, according to a report by the Israeli daily Haaretz.

Around 700 residents lost their homes in the June conflict; yet, no large-scale rebuilding efforts have begun, leaving hundreds of families in limbo.

A reconstruction plan was approved by the cabinet and submitted to the parliament (Knesset), but remains stalled — opponents in right-wing and Haredi coalition parties have refused to back spending before resolving broader political and legal disputes, including a draft law on military-service exemptions for Orthodox Jews.

As a result, many damaged buildings remain unrepaired, temporarily sealed off or marked unsafe, and residents continue living in provisional accommodation — with no clear timetable for recovery.

The impasse has drawn growing domestic criticism, with affected citizens and local authorities urging the government to overcome internal friction and deliver on promised reconstruction — warning that further delay risks turning temporary displacement into long-term homelessness.
