UN Warns of Slow Rebuilding in Quake-Hit Afghanistan
DID Press: UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that weeks after the earthquake in northern Afghanistan, reconstruction in many affected areas remains slow, leaving homeless families facing serious risks as winter approaches.

In its latest report, OCHA warned that rebuilding efforts in the northern earthquake-hit regions lack the necessary pace, and many families whose homes were destroyed in the recent quake are still living in tents and temporary shelters.
According to OCHA, insufficient resources, lack of equipment, and the scale of destruction have significantly slowed the reconstruction of homes and damaged infrastructure.
The agency adds that with severe winter conditions already arriving in Afghanistan’s mountainous regions, thousands of families still lack heating supplies, adequate food, and proper shelter.
The UN report stresses that many of the affected areas were already suffering from prolonged drought, and the recent earthquake has put additional pressure on local communities.
OCHA urged the international community to provide immediate assistance, warning that any delay in delivering aid could lead to a worsening humanitarian crisis in the earthquake-affected regions in the coming weeks.
