Ukraine unveils 20-point peace draft with NATO-style security guarantees

DID Press: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a 20-point draft peace agreement, developed in cooperation with the United States, which provides Ukraine with security guarantees comparable to NATO membership. The draft is currently under review by Russia and outlines measures for elections and demilitarized zones in eastern Ukraine.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday, Zelensky said that while some points remain under negotiation, the agreement aims to stabilize frontlines in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson and facilitate the creation of demilitarized and free economic zones.

The updated draft reduces the number of points from the original 28, bringing it closer to Ukraine’s interests. Any withdrawal of Ukrainian forces would require approval through a national referendum.

Under the proposal, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, currently under Russian control, would be jointly managed by Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S., with surrounding areas designated as a free economic zone. Zelensky rejected direct Russian oversight of the facility.

A special task force will be established to coordinate troop deployments, define potential economic zones, and advance the peace process.
