Taliban Invite Turkish Firms to Invest in Major Water Projects in Afghanistan

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Ministry of Water and Energy has invited Turkish companies to invest in several large-scale dam construction and water supply projects, the ministry said on Monday.

Acting Minister of Water and Energy Abdul Latif Mansour said the ministry is in talks with Turkish investors on implementing major water and energy projects across the country.

According to a ministry statement, Mansour met representatives of the Turkish construction company Kutay Insaat to discuss potential investment in key dam and water management schemes.

During the meeting, Mansour welcomed the company’s interest and outlined three priority projects for review and possible investment: the Gambiri hydropower and water supply dam, a water transfer project from Sayad to New Kabul City, and a water supply project from Lalander Shatoot to Kabul.

He said the ministry is prepared to provide necessary facilitation and to hold joint technical meetings to advance the projects.

Representatives of the Turkish firm said they are ready to begin technical assessments and expressed interest in continuing cooperation in Afghanistan’s water and energy sector. The company has previously been involved in regional infrastructure and construction projects.

In recent months, visits by Turkish economic and investment delegations to Kabul have increased, with Taliban officials repeatedly signaling Afghanistan’s readiness to attract foreign investment in infrastructure development.

Turkish companies have also expressed interest in participating in dam construction, power generation and water resource management projects in the country.
