Pakistani Analysts Downplay Media Claims of Taliban Rift

DID Press: Pakistani experts say recent media reports exaggerating “deep divisions” within the Taliban are overblown and do not represent a serious threat.

Imtiaz Gul, Executive Director of Pakistan’s Center for Security Studies, highlighted that while different factions exist within the Taliban, key leadership and decision-making remain centralized in Kandahar under the political head of the group.

Former Pakistani Ambassador to Kabul Mansoor Ahmed Khan also told the Express Tribune that internal disagreements do not pose an immediate threat to the Taliban’s governance. He noted that the group’s increasing international engagement further underscores its internal stability.

Both experts agree that it is unlikely these differences will lead to major structural changes in Taliban leadership in the near future.
