Afghanistan, Central Asia at Center of Joint Meeting of 3 Regional Organizations

DID Press: Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has announced that a joint meeting of the organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Moscow on October 15 and 16.

The meeting will focus on the security situation in Afghanistan, terrorist threats, extremism, drug trafficking and the consequences of instability in Afghanistan for Central Asia.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council, as well as meetings of the foreign and defense ministers of member states of the organization, will be held in Moscow on November 10 and 11. Decisions are expected to be made to strengthen security cooperation.

The meetings come as Russia and Central Asian countries are expressing growing concerns about security threats arising from the situation in Afghanistan.
