US Ambassador Warns: ISIS Remains Global Threat, Afghanistan in Focus
DID Press: US Ambassador to UN, Mike Waltz, warned at a Security Council session that ISIS terrorist group, particularly its Khorasan branch in Afghanistan, remains active and poses a serious threat to regional and global security.

Waltz emphasized that effective counteraction requires broad international cooperation. He noted that ISIS-K’s operations are not confined to Afghanistan, with branches expanding in Syria, Iraq, Africa, and South Asia.
Highlighting the group’s use of new technologies and digital tools, Waltz stressed that ISIS has increased its global reach.
Representatives from China and Pakistan also expressed concern over the unrestricted activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan. The Pakistani envoy said these groups operate freely from Afghanistan territory and are responsible for attacks in Pakistan, while China called on the Taliban to take concrete steps to curb terrorist threats.
The UN Security Council underscored that ISIS-K poses a significant risk to international peace, citing the January 19 attack in Kabul that killed six Afghans and one Chinese citizen. The council reiterated that sustained, coordinated global action is essential to confront this threat.
