UNHR experts condemned US-Israeli attacks on Iran, called ‘illegal’

DID Press: UN human rights experts condemned the military attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran and considered them a clear violation of international law.

These experts stated in a declaration: ‘Unprovoked attacks by the US and Israel carried out during diplomatic negotiations and without Security Council authorization violate the fundamental prohibition on the use of force, sovereign equality, and the territorial integrity of countries.’ According to them, these attacks also violate the ‘right to life.’

United Nations experts have also expressed concern about Iran’s retaliatory attacks in the Gulf and other parts of the Middle East, emphasizing that any use of force in self-defense must comply with the principles of ‘necessity and proportionality.’ They said, ‘We cannot choose when international law is enforced. Illegal military intervention is not a solution to the nuclear issue or other disputes.’

The statement also noted that these attacks are part of a ‘pattern of unlawful unilateral actions’ that could undermine regional stability and displace thousands of people.

Experts also expressed concern about Israeli attacks on Lebanon, saying that these attacks are a ‘repeated violation of international law and the ceasefire agreement’ which has caused civilian casualties and injuries.

In another part of this statement, the attack on an elementary school for girls in the city of Minab in Hormozgan province, which resulted in the martyrdom of more than 160 female students and the injury of dozens of others, has been strongly condemned. According to experts, attacks on hospitals, including Gandhi Hospital and Khatam al-Anbiya Hospital in Tehran, have also been reported. They emphasized: ‘Targeting civilians, educational centers, and health institutions is a serious violation of international humanitarian law.’

In the end, these experts called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and for all parties to return to diplomatic talks.
