PBS Poll: Majority of Americans Oppose Trump’s Approach to Iran

DID Press: A new survey by PBS shows that 54 percent of Americans disapprove of how Donald Trump is handling tensions with Iran, while 36 percent support his approach and 10 percent remain undecided. The poll, conducted in early March, reflects public opinion during the first week of escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran.

Trump’s approval rating on managing Iran has fallen by six percentage points compared with January 2020, when tensions with Tehran surged after a U.S. drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force.

The survey also found that 56 percent of Americans oppose U.S. military action against Iran, while 44 percent support it. Overall backing for military action has remained relatively stable since January, before the latest wave of attacks began. The poll was conducted shortly after an Iranian drone strike on a U.S. command facility in Kuwait that reportedly killed six American soldiers.

Reports also claim that recent joint U.S.–Israeli strikes targeted not only military sites but also civilian infrastructure. In one incident in the city of Minab, more than 170 schoolgirls and teachers were reportedly killed when a girls’ school was struck during a U.S. attack.
