DID Press: Swiss government announced that, adhering to its longstanding principle of neutrality, it has denied U.S. military flights associated with the Iran conflict from passing through its airspace.

On Saturday, the Swiss Federal Council stated that two requests for U.S. reconnaissance aircraft to transit on Sunday were rejected. However, three other flights, including two transport planes, were granted permission to pass.
Swiss officials emphasized that any future requests for U.S. military flights exceeding normal activity would only be considered if the mission’s purpose is clear and unrelated to the Iran conflict.
The statement noted: “Swiss neutrality law prohibits flights of parties engaged in war with military objectives from entering our airspace.”
Switzerland has traditionally maintained neutrality in international conflicts, avoiding direct participation in military operations under both domestic law and international obligations.
