Construction Begins on New Kandahar Airport Terminal with 800M Afghanis Investment
DID Press: Construction has officially commenced on a new passenger terminal and vehicle parking facility at Kandahar International Airport, marking a major infrastructure upgrade valued at more than 800 million Afghanis (approximately $11 million).

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by officials from the Taliban-run Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, including operational deputy minister Mawlawi Fathullah Mansour, along with local authorities from Kandahar.
According to officials, the project will be implemented in two phases and is designed to improve service delivery, expand passenger-handling capacity, and provide standardized airport facilities. The new terminal is expected to accommodate around 3,000 passengers per day, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
Additional components of the project include the construction of a vehicle parking area, improved traffic management, and upgraded passenger amenities. Authorities stated that once completed, the development will help increase both domestic and international flight operations and strengthen regional connectivity.
Construction is projected to take approximately two and a half years to complete before the facility becomes fully operational. The modernization of Kandahar’s airport infrastructure is widely viewed as a strategic step toward supporting economic growth, facilitating mobility, and expanding commercial links.
