Guardian: Trump Claim on Strait of Hormuz Vessel Traffic ‘Does Not Match Reality’

DID Press: A report by The Guardian says claims by Donald Trump regarding the passage of more than 20 non-Iranian vessels through the Strait of Hormuz are inconsistent with available maritime data.

According to the report, some White House officials told US media outlets that over 20 foreign vessels had transited the strait since the start of the reported maritime restrictions.

However, data from energy analytics firm Kpler indicates that shipping traffic along the route remains significantly below normal levels.

Kpler reported that only six vessels passed through the strait on the first day of the restrictions, with overall transit volumes continuing to decline. The company also noted that shipowners’ confidence in regional security conditions remains low, and persistent uncertainty is influencing operational decisions.

Meanwhile, German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd announced that it will suspend vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz until tensions ease, underscoring ongoing concerns within the global maritime industry.
