Turkish Parties Demand US Envoy’s Summons After Controversial Remarks

DID Press: Several political parties in Turkey, including the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi), have called for the summoning of the US ambassador following controversial remarks made during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

According to reports, opposition figures said the ambassador’s comments on relations between Turkey and Israel constitute interference in the country’s domestic and foreign policy.

During his speech at the forum in Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the US envoy reportedly described tensions between Turkey and Israel as “mere rhetorical consumption” and suggested that the two countries share common ground on several regional issues, with their public disagreements being largely “performative.”

These remarks triggered strong criticism from Turkish political groups. Fatih Erbakan condemned the statements, describing them as an “explicit admission” of external attempts to shape regional dynamics and firmly rejecting any suggestion of a hidden alliance between Turkey and Israel.

He further characterized the remarks as direct interference in Turkey’s sovereign foreign policy decisions and called for an official diplomatic protest.
