Russia Warns Israeli Actions Undermine Syria’s Sovereignty, Regional Stability

DID Press: Russia has warned that Israeli military actions are deepening instability in Syria and undermining its sovereignty, in remarks delivered at the UN Security Council.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that Israel’s activities are exacerbating the Syrian crisis and contributing to wider instability across the Middle East.

He said Israeli operations, including military strikes and violations of international agreements such as the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, constitute a breach of international law and directly undermine Syria’s sovereignty.

Nebenzya also criticized Israel’s justification for its actions, including claims related to the protection of minorities—particularly Syrian Druze communities—calling such arguments “unacceptable and dangerous.”

He further pointed to Israel’s continued military presence in the occupied Golan Heights, describing it as a clear violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

On regional implications, the Russian envoy warned that escalating tensions linked to broader regional confrontations are having indirect but significant consequences for Syria, including economic pressure, threats to energy security, and reduced prospects for reconstruction investment.

He emphasized that Syria continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions affected by poverty, food insecurity, and damaged infrastructure, warning that further escalation would worsen conditions.

Russia reiterated its support for Syria’s territorial integrity and called for an end to the use of force, urging a return to political solutions and respect for state sovereignty as the only viable path to regional stability.
