DID Press: Sergey Lavrov, foreign minister of Russia, has accused the United States of abandoning established diplomatic principles and international conventions in pursuit of its national interests, particularly in efforts to dominate global energy markets.
Speaking to Russian state television, Lavrov said Washington’s approach toward countries in Latin America and the Middle East risks “returning the world to an era when the principles of international law effectively did not exist.”
He pointed to intensifying geopolitical competition over energy resources, arguing that unilateral policies adopted by Washington are aimed at expanding its influence in global markets—an approach he warned could undermine the stability of the international system.
The Russian foreign minister further cautioned that disregarding diplomatic and legal norms may heighten tensions across multiple regions and weaken trust among nations.
His remarks come amid growing global rivalry over energy resources and political influence, particularly in strategically significant regions, which has increasingly become a central driver of tensions in international relations.
