Ali Al-Zaydi Appointed Iraq’s Prime Minister-Designate

DID Press: Iraqi President Nizar Amidi has officially tasked Ali Al-Zaydi with forming a new government, following a political agreement among factions within the Coordination Framework.

The decision came after two days of intensive negotiations among Shia political leaders, reportedly held at the residence of the Popular Mobilization Forces leadership. Regional media, including Al Mayadeen, said the consensus was reached with active mediation by Faleh al-Fayyadh.

According to official sources, the presidential decree assigning Al-Zaydi the mandate to form a cabinet was issued early Tuesday, marking a critical step in Iraq’s ongoing political transition.

Al-Zaydi, widely described as a technocrat with an economic background, has previously worked in banking, finance, and large-scale institutional management. He is regarded as a non-partisan figure with a reform-oriented agenda focused on state-building, institutional restructuring, and economic development.

The Coordination Framework praised the outgoing government of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and said Al-Zaydi’s appointment could pave the way for a more efficient and inclusive administration.

Senior judicial and parliamentary officials also welcomed the decision, urging political factions to support the prime minister-designate in forming a government swiftly amid Iraq’s sensitive political environment.
