Taliban Signs 30-Year Fluorite Mining Deal in Kandahar Worth 145M Afghanis

DID Press: Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Taliban has announced the signing of a long-term contract valued at approximately 145 million Afghanis for the extraction and processing of fluorite in the Nish district of Kandahar Province, granting the government a 35 percent royalty share and pledging the creation of around 150 jobs.

According to the ministry, the contract has been set for a duration of 30 years, during which the private domestic company involved will be responsible for carrying out all stages of extraction, transportation, and processing of fluorite in compliance with established legal and contractual obligations.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Taliban administration will receive a 35 percent royalty from processed fluorite materials. Officials emphasized that continuous monitoring will be conducted to ensure the company fulfills its technical, financial, and operational commitments.

As part of its social responsibility obligations, the company has committed not only to paying royalties but also to supporting environmental protection measures, implementing community development projects, and creating approximately 150 employment opportunities for local residents. The ministry described these commitments as part of a broader policy aimed at increasing local community participation in mining operations.

The agreement comes as the Taliban authorities have intensified efforts in recent months to boost mining revenues by awarding small and medium-sized mining projects to domestic companies, positioning the mining sector as a key source of economic growth and fiscal sustainability in Afghanistan.
