Rail Freight Exceeds 484,000 Tons in Afghanistan in April 2026

DID Press: Around 484,000 metric tons of goods were transported through Afghanistan’s railway network in April 2026, according to the Ministry of Public Works.

The ministry said total rail movement from the beginning to the end of the month reached 873,981 metric tons, including domestic shipments, transit cargo, and exports.

Officials reported that the largest share of freight was handled through Hairatan Port, which accounted for 577,989 tons of total transport volume.

In addition, about 63 tons of export goods were shipped via rail, mainly consisting of dried fruits and pomegranate juice.

The ministry said railway infrastructure development is ongoing, with the aim of expanding transport capacity, facilitating trade, and strengthening regional transit links.
